International Boarding School in France

More than 25 years ago, SEK-Les Alpes and its boarding halls opened its doors to students from all over the world.

Its proximity to major European cities gives students the opportunity to travel to enrich their international experience: Florence, Milan, Turin, Paris…

Furthermore, the Megève ski resort is located close to the school with over 400 km of pistes and Courchevel, Val Thorens and Meribel, which hosted the 1992 Winter Olympics, are also easily accessible.

The school is located in the heart of Europe, in the town of St. Nicolas la Chapelle in the French Alps, with school grounds spanning over 15,000 m². It is a unique and privileged setting in one of the most exclusive areas in the world. Just a few kilometres from Switzerland, with the best ski slopes in the world, this area of the French Alps is popular for being one of the favourite destinations for the most influential families in the world.

Aimed at students between 14 and 16 years old, the educational model is mainly in English, including more than 500 hours of French annually (more than 12 hours a week) and where learning is structured in levels, so students can join whether or not they have prior knowledge.

The curriculum is structured around eight subject groups. Some of them are worked on in a blended way, which offers the possibility of accessing multiple materials and online classes, because the teaching and learning process is managed beyond class timetables and physical spaces.
The teacher ratio student ratio is 1:3, which facilitates and guarantees personalised attention and efficient learning for each of the SEK-Les Alpes students.

The curriculum can be enriched over the course of the academic year, we prepare students for the Alliance Française Diploma and for the Cambridge language exams, according to the level acquired.
In addition, the school also offers the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. It is an all-round personal development scheme intended for students from MYP4, designed so that these students have the possibility of strengthening different skills that will be useful for their personal growth. The DofE is based, throughout its different levels, on four fundamental areas that students must work on demonstrating commitment and regularity:

• Physical activity

• Community service.

• Developing skills

• Outdoor expeditions.

The school’s facilities, blending perfectly with its Alpine surroundings, include two large buildings with dormitories and the most cutting-edge and innovative teaching resources to ensure students’ all-round development.

The school has a library, laboratory, a Maker ® space, classrooms and a large arts room, gym and common spaces for study and leisure.

Additionally, SEK-Les Alpes is equipped with sports court, swimming pool and large green areas. Its location at the foot of the Alps makes all kinds of outdoor activities available to students just a few minutes from campus.

The school has two types of accommodation:

• Full boarding: full month, including weekends

• Weekly boarding: Monday to Friday

Triple and four-person rooms.

Full board with breakfast, snack, lunch, afternoon and dinner.

Full laundry, personal and bed service.

Academic and study support programme with teachers from different subjects.

SEK – Les Alpes offers a wide range of cultural sports activities for students on Saturdays during the first and third terms, and which complement the educational programme perfectly.

Sport activities: The exceptional nature of the area allows skiing during the second school term. Three days a week of the nearby Megève ski resort. Students receive lessons taught by instructors from the French Ski School on Thursdays and Saturdays and on Sundays skiing is free. These activities are part of the school curriculum.

During the last term, with the improved weather conditions, students focus on sporting activities. Students make the most of the unique enviroment doing orienteering around the area, canyoning in La Lechere, rafting on the Isère river, tree adventure parks at Fort de Tamié, water skiing in Albertville, caving in Sassenage, climbing in Praz Sur Arly, just some of the activities that we offer and through which we develop our major educational pillars: effort.

Cultural and recreational activities: The exclusive location allows students to enjoy a unique experience to get to know Europe. Every month they visit nearby towns and cities. In addition, they will also visit three countries during the academic year: Italy (first term), Switzerland (second term) and France (third term).

An unforgettable, captivating experience
